Sweep the Acres

Forest Acres may span just five square miles, but it is rich in natural beauty, a thriving tree canopy, and a strong sense of community pride. The Forest Acres Beautification Foundation is a resident-led, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to enhancing the city's appearance and character through beautification projects, community improvements, and environmental stewardship.

Operating independently while working in close partnership with the City of Forest Acres, the Foundation raises funds and supports initiatives that help keep Forest Acres an attractive and welcoming place to live, work, and visit.

A Public-Private Partnership for Beautification

As one of the smallest municipalities in the Midlands, Forest Acres faces unique budgetary challenges when it comes to undertaking large-scale beautification and enhancement projects. The partnership between the City, the Forest Acres Beautification Foundation, local businesses, and dedicated volunteers plays a critical role in helping make these projects possible.

Through this public-private partnership, community members are able to leverage resources, expertise, and volunteer support to beautify gateways, public spaces, streetscapes, and other areas throughout the city. Forest Acres is fortunate to have a business community and resident volunteers who are deeply invested in preserving and enhancing the city's character for future generations.

Recent Accomplishments

The Foundation has already played a key role in several highly visible beautification efforts throughout the city. Recent accomplishments include the installation of decorative utility box wraps featuring original artwork created by a Lake Katherine artist, Leah Richardson with Dream a Little Art SC, who grew up in Forest Acres, transforming ordinary infrastructure into vibrant public art.

The Foundation also partnered with volunteers to establish and maintain the landscaped garden bed at the Pitt Stop convenience store at the corner of Forest Drive and Trenholm Road, helping create a more attractive gateway into the community.

These projects demonstrate how strategic partnerships and community involvement can have a lasting impact on the city's appearance and sense of place.

Sweep the Acres

One of the Foundation's signature initiatives is Sweep the Acres, the city's annual community cleanup event. Each spring, hundreds of residents, local businesses, civic organizations, and volunteers come together to pick up litter, spruce up public spaces, and help keep Forest Acres looking its best.

What began as a cleanup effort has become a beloved community tradition and a visible reminder of how much people care about their city.

Support the Foundation

Residents interested in supporting the Foundation's mission are encouraged to get involved. Whether through volunteering, participating in events such as Sweep the Acres, or contributing to beautification projects, every effort helps enhance the quality of life in Forest Acres.
